Hong Kong Auctions is First of New York's Vibrant Asia Art Week Sales

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 7, 2011

The opening auction of New York's vibrant round of spring Asian art sales will be conducted on Sunday, March 20, in Chinese and English at Hong Kong Auctions New York, http://hongkongauctiongallery.com, an emerging player in the international auction market. Highlights include exceptional Chinese porcelains and pottery, Neolithic Age properties, Antique Carved Jades and Chinese paintings.

The marquee item is an unusual Famille Rose Enamel Faux Bois Ewer. Of elongated pear form, cupped mouth, curved spout and arched handle, the ewer is enameled in earth tones to resemble the grain of knotted wood. Two gilt dragons make this ewer one of the more dramatic to come to auction in recent years. It is a masterpiece of the ceramic artist's art and expected to command close to $ 1,000,000.

A few items later buyers will have the opportunity to bid on a magnificent Qianlong Famille Rose Enamel Millefleurs Zun, or wine vessel. The well-potted body of the ten-inch tall vessel displays Peonies, Lotus, Chrysanthemums, Prunus and Roses in full bloom. The vivid flowers are set against a gold ground further decorated with foliage and stems. Medallions of Bat and 'Shou' encircle the narrow neck while golden swallows form the handles. It is Lot 187. Interested collectors are asked to request an estimate. http://hongkongauctiongallery.com

As the current issue of "Arts of Asia" magazine so eloquently states, Bronze Age Chinese objects are "distinctive landmarks in the history of the art world." Lot 244, a slender and elegant Ritual Wine Vessel, is a case in point. The fine Jue is constructed of piece-moulded bronze, dating to the Xia Dynasty (2205 to 1766 B.C.). Of thin casting and sleek design, it is similar to one in the Henin Provincial Museum of the Shang City at Yanshi. Rising on three legs to a flat bottom hourglass body, the Jue flares at the rim to a sharp elliptical point opposite a long channeled spout that is embellished with small nail heads. A curved double strap forms the handle. The rare, cast bronze wine vessel is expected to fetch at least $ 200,000.

Several other bronze items make their appearance starting at Lot 236, which is a Massive Bronze Ding of bulbous form with complex zoomorphs. It too is in the $ 100,000 or above range. A mysterious Bronze Mythical Figure with a dragon head and nine small dragon tentacles protruding from the back of the head then commands attention. Thought to have been used in sacrificial rites, the Spring and Autumn Period sculpture is Lot 242 and carries a catalog low estimate of $ 150,000.

The outstanding carved Jade property is a magnificent Yellow Jade Jewelry Box with a Qilin atop its cover. Intricately modeled after a Bronze Vessel Fu, the box is rectangular and its cover is domed. Three Qilins, two as handles, one an outstretched adornment on the cover, complete the piece. Lot 254 should bring high interest at $ 80,000 or above.

Among the paintings, a hanging scroll of a Sleeping Cat is both delightful and exceptional. Signed Zhu Da (Bada Shanen). Positioned at Lot 43, and with exceptional provenance, the scroll bears two artist seals and two collectors seals. Its price is by request.

A contemporary scroll, circa 1970, by the late New York based artist Walasse Ting, entitled "Ladies" is another rare offering. Inscribed and signed Ding Xiongquan, the painting measures 71 ? inches tall. It is estimated at between $ 80,000 and $ 120,000.

Throughout the sale, many moderately valued items will be a draw for new collectors. Space does not permit a more comprehensive telling of the items in the Sunday, March 20 auction at Hong Kong Auctions New York. For complete listings and descriptions of the 310 properties for sale, please visit http://www.hongkongauctiongallery.com.

It should be noted the auction is conducted in bi-lingual Chinese and English, and the catalog is printed the same. http:// hongkongauctiongallery.com Buyers can also bid on ArtFact Live. The preview dates are Saturday, March 12 through Saturday, March 19, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Hong Kong Auctions New York is located at 295 Madison Avenue, New York. The First Annual Jelly Donut Awards Recap the Top 5 Translation Errors of 2009

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 21, 2009

Translation was a hot topic in 2009, but sometimes for the wrong reasons.

That?s why Accredited Language Services, a US-based translation company, announces the first annual Jelly Donut Awards ? recapping the top 5 real translation, interpreting and localization errors of the year.

The Jelly Donut Awards pay tribute to one of the most infamous translation errors in US history: John F. Kennedy?s pronouncement ?Ich bin ein Berliner.? Although Kennedy intended to express empathy for the citizens of Berlin, his German phrase actually translated to ?I am a jelly donut.?

From the highest levels of international politics to the ad campaigns of multinational corporations, 2009 saw some big translation errors ? all of which could have been prevented by professional, accurate translation services.

#5. Unexpected Gifts

When a South Korean government representative visited Russia, he commented on the beauty of the endangered Siberian tigers of Eastern Russia. ?Korea is very interested in Siberian tigers,? he told Vladimir Kirillov, head of Natural Resources Management.

But Kirillov heard a very different message. The Russian/Korean interpreter told him that South Korea was asking Kirillov to consider donating a tiger instead. Kirillov proposed the gift upon his return to Russia, and the tiger is now living in the wilds of South Korea - all because of a translation error!

#4. Game Over

Fans of the controversial ? and resoundingly popular ? game ?Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? might be confused by a translation error in the Japanese release.

In the American version, the Russian villain Vladimir Mararov organizes a massacre at a Russian airport. (Spoiler alert!) The player?s character, an undercover CIA agent, is instructed not to speak Russian, since Mararov intends to frame the Americans for the attack.

But in Japan, Mararov?s line, ?Remember, no Russian,? was translated as ?Kill ?em; they?re Russians.? The translation error did not properly set up Mararov?s plan to frame the Americans and left Japanese players confused as to why Mararov kills their CIA character and leaves his body and CIA identification at the scene of the crime.

#3. Look Before You Cross

Visitors to Wales should make sure to look both ways before they cross the street, thanks to a translation error in Cardiff. A temporary road sign this summer cautioned English-speaking pedestrians to ?look left? to avoid dangerous road hazards.

The problem? The sign was translated for Welsh readers as ?cerddwyr edrychwch i'r dde? ? ?pedestrians look right.? Luckily, no Welsh speakers were harmed in the making of this translation error.

#2. Microsoft Misjudgment

Microsoft?s error in a website for Polish businesses became national news this summer. Although the translation of the ad copy was accurate, the company?s localization experts altered the photo accompanying the ad to ?adapt? the graphic for Poland.

The original ad featured three racially diverse people sitting around a conference table, but the Polish ad replaced an African-American man's face with a Caucasian one. How did people catch on? The man?s hand hadn?t been changed.

#1. Translation Overload

During a foreign policy meeting between American and Russian leaders in March, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton presented Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with a ?reset button,? representing the erasure of past tension between the two countries.

But the English word ?reset? had been translated to the Russian ?peregruzka? - meaning ?overcharged? or ?overloaded.? The photo op of the two politicians pressing the button lost its international significance - and instead became a global joke thanks to the translation error

Stay tuned for the winners of next years? awards ? but avoid becoming one of them. Professional, accurate translation services like those provided by Accredited Language Services can help anyone avoid next year?s big translation error.

Overtone, Inc. Introduces OpenMic GameVoice?the First Social Media Insights Report for the Video Game Industry

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 10, 2010

Overtone?, Inc. a leading provider of integrated listening systems that deliver real-time customer intelligence to major consumer brand companies, today introduced OpenMic? GameVoice?, the first monthly video game industry report to analyze millions of consumer conversations from popular social media video game communities, providing actionable insights to marketers, producers, designers and retail category managers. Introductory three-month subscriptions to GameVoice are $ 1,999 (US) for a limited time.

?The days of snap judgments and knee-jerk reactions to a few gamers? online comments are over,? said Alex Lustberg, vice president of product marketing, Overtone, Inc. ?GameVoice delivers valuable information that goes beyond simple "buzz" to examine what is driving customer conversations in relation to sentiment, specific features, intent-to-buy, and other trends. With a sample size in the millions, GameVoice offers insights that are more representative than any other report on the video game industry.?

?For the first time in a single report, we give video game industry professionals what was formerly impossible to obtain -- an accurate and cost effective way of understanding what drives game success based on the voices of millions of passionate gamers,? Lustberg added.

GameVoice is developed using Overtone?s OpenMic, an advanced listening system that applies artificial intelligence and a text analytics engine to automatically "read" online comments and determine actionable insights. GameVoice provides an in-depth analysis of millions of online consumer comments every month from over 30 of the most popular social media video game communities such as IGN, GamesRadar, GameSpot and GameTrailers. GameVoice pinpoints and extracts significant topics, meaningful themes and sentiment for specific game titles, genres, publishers and platforms, and presents this data in an actionable and graphical format for video game industry professionals.

The monthly report will include over one hundred individual charts and analyses examining social media conversation about consoles, major publishers, genres, released and announced games, and retailers. For example, the February 2010 sample report of GameVoice provides Game Insights for Microsoft Xbox 360 Released Games with a platform volume of 445,069. The analysis of the 445,069 conversations showed that Mass Effect 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 garner more comments than any other released game, each with nearly four times as many comments as the next released game. The February release of Aliens vs. Predator comes in third, followed by Bayonetta and Bioshock 2. In terms of Intent to Buy, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 leads Mass Effect 2 while Pure and Assassin?s Creed II ranked relatively high on the list. Professionals in marketing, public relations, production/design, product marketing and retail category managers can benefit from the actionable insights that GameVoice offers. For producers and designers, GameVoice provides granular consumer insights about specific games that will aid in decision making regarding the development of a franchise or next generation game titles. GameVoice identifies where a product ranks within its category or genre and reveals the trends and sentiment around specific game attributes (e.g., graphics, storyline, audio, etc.)

For product marketers, GameVoice provides mission critical information to help maximize the effectiveness of launch activities. The report presents timely and accurate consumer insights in relation to specific platforms, genres, and games to inform positioning and launch strategies. In addition, GameVoice lets marketers determine ?share of voice? versus competitors and measure the effectiveness of a launch.

Finally, for retail category managers, GameVoice enables them to understand consumers? purchase intent for current and upcoming titles, strategically assess SKU placement across sales channels, and understand the various sub-groups of the total audience to create targeted retail campaigns. The Vein Center of Orange County (VCOC) in Irvine, California Proudly Announces the Winner of Their First Office Raffle

(PRWEB) January 05, 2012

On December 1, 2011, Jnell S. of Costa Mesa was randomly chosen from all entrants as the winner of a South Coast Plaza shopping spree. Following their treatment entrants were asked to share their experience at the center by completing a survey. However, the raffle was so popular that it will be repeated next spring. Patients can remain informed about our upcoming promotions and offers by following us on Twitter and Facebook.

Dr. Alan Kanter is the founder and medical director at VCOC, Orange County?s premiere center specializing exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of venous disorders since 1990. Having contributed to the development of ultrasound-guided vein ablation through his own published scientific studies and medical conference seminars, Dr. Kanter has earned the unparalleled reputation from his peers as Orange County?s ?go to? expert in venous disease.

VCOC excels by focusing on only one service: the diagnosis and non-surgical out-patient treatment of vein disorders. This includes eliminating large varicose veins by a 30-minute office procedure called endovenous thermal ablation, erasing thick spider veins through conventional sclerotherapy (injections), and making unsightly small spider veins disappear with the latest procedure called ?Vein Gogh.? Other vein disorders evaluated at VCOC include venous thrombosis (blood clots), thrombophilia (clotting disorders), leg ulcers, and the elimination of unwanted veins on the face, chest, and hands.

While most doctors first send their patients to an imaging center for ultrasound testing and mapping to formulate a treatment plan, Dr. Kanter performs his own ultrasound examinations and treatments all under one roof. His qualifications include RVT certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography and board certification by the American Board of Phlebology ? a rare combination, indeed.

More information on the next raffle and above services may be found on the VCOC web site http://www.vcoc.com, which was recently updated with user friendly features that make navigation easier. The website also features several videos that showcase various treatment methods, patient testimonials and an interview with Dr. Kanter. You may also contact us by calling 949-551-8855.
