SoCal Smackdown Hosts 'Casino Night' to Benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation

SoCal Smackdown, Orange County?s premier non-electronic gaming convention, is proud to announce they will be hosting a ?Casino Night,? with all proceeds benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Orange County and the Inland Empire, and the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation on Saturday, September 3 at the Anaheim Marriott from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.


Authentic blackjack tables, poker tables, a craps table and a roulette tables staffed by professionally trained dealers will be available at the event. Attendees will have the opportunity to win prizes in a big-ticket raffle. Please note, absolutely no cash prizes will be awarded.


Admission to the event is $ 25 and guests will receive $ 100 worth of playing chips. Additional chips will be available for purchase at the event. Chips can be exchanged for raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes such as: overnight stays at the Anaheim Marriott and Anaheim Hilton Hotels, as well as gift certificates to renowned Orange County restaurants, retail establishments and more.

The four-day convention is the home of hundreds of different non-electronic gaming events, including board, role-playing, collectible card and miniature games. SoCal Smackdown is a family-friendly convention that brings friends together (new and old) with the mutual goal of playing games in a social atmosphere. SoCal Smackdown offers both competitive and non-competitive games for all audiences.


SoCal Smackdown will be taking place September 2-5 at the Anaheim Marriott, 700 W. Convention Way, Anaheim, CA 92802. Convention hours are from 5:00 p.m. on Friday night and run through Monday night at 5:00 p.m. This is 72 straight hours of fun and gaming.

M2 Research Reports 90 Percent of Tweens are Playing Games Online; Mobile and Social Media Use on the Rise Among Children

Today's kids are playing games on consoles, computers, portables and online more than ever before. Kids and Games: What Boys and Girls are Playing Today is a new report series launched by M2 Research. Key findings from the report include:


1. Social Networking: Social Networking is increasingly prevalent in children's lives. Facebook is now the favorite website among tween (8-11) boys and teen (12-15) girls.


2. Key Demographic and "Sweet Spot": Online games dominate for boys and girls ages 8-11. 91% of tween boys and 93% of tween girls play games online.


3. Nintendo Dominates Handheld Gaming Space: But thanks largely to the iPad and iPhone, Apple is becoming a significant player especially with girls.


4. Portable Platform Discrepancy: Sony's PSP has the largest gender discrepancy. 17% of teen girls play games on the PSP compared to 44% of teen boys.


5. Strong Videogame Franchises: Franchises continue to flourish at the top of the "Favorites" list for boys and girls. The videogame franchise girls prefer is the Mario Series, with 20% of girls picking it as their favorite. Boys, prefer Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with 36% of teen boys picking it as their favorite game.


"We have found kids tend to play a wide variety of games, and their favorite games and gaming sites change often." explains Louise Curcio, M2 Research Analyst. "There are opportunities for companies, and we believe the kids market has been overlooked."
