Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: New York City?s LaserTouch Aesthetics Offers Unique Laser Hair Removal Services for Women & Men

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 26, 2011

According to Mike Sendogan, Clinical Director of LaserTouch Aesthetics, ?recent advancements in technology have made laser hair removal an accessible and convenient option for anyone frustrated by temporary hair removal options.? With nearly ten years of experience, LaserTouch Aesthetics helps New Yorkers go from stubble to smooth with advanced laser technology.

Laser Hair Removal for Men

According to Mike, ?for many years permanent hair removal treatments were considered a ?women only? type of service. We have seen a huge increase in male clients once they realized the benefits and convenience of laser hair removal.? Mike notes that men opt to have laser hair removal treatments on their chest and back. LaserTouch Aesthetics also services clientele who suffer from chronic and often painful ingrown facial hair.

Lastly, for completely bald or balding men who are tired of the daily maintenance a shaved head demands, Mike says permanent laser hair removal of bald spots or complete removal of hair on the head has increased in popularity. ?We have many clients who complain of their ?five o?clock shadow? showing up on their shaved head,? says Mike, ?guys who are bald want to reduce the amount of time they spend maintaining their look, and this is a perfect solution for them.?

Laser Hair Removal for Women

LaserTouch offers a wide range of treatments for women looking to permanently remove unwanted hair. Aside from common areas such as the bikini line, under arms and legs, LaserTouch is also skilled in facial hair removal, including the hairline and upper lip. LaserTouch carries a wide variety of laser devices which allows them to specialize in all skin types, including dark and tan complexions (which can be scarred through improper laser usage). Mike notes, ?women of all ages not only find laser hair removal convenient, it also creates a great feeling of confidence.?

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal is a relatively painless process during which hair that is in its active growing phase is targeted and permanently removed. In most cases, hair is reduced by 85-90% after six treatments. LaserTouch?s laser equipment is top-of-the-line and FDA approved, making them extremely safe and effective. LaserTouch?s sophisticated lasers target the root of the hair to eliminate everything from dark, coarse hair to fine, light hair.

During treatment, the laser targets the darkness of the melanin pigment in the hair follicle. Hair follicles that are targeted will die and fall out in two to ten days following treatment. Most treatments are scheduled four to eight weeks apart, allowing for the hair growth cycle to begin again, allowing LaserTouch to target remaining hair follicles in the treated area. Most clients are recommended four to six treatments to achieve maximum results.

What is the Procedure Like?

The actual laser hair removal process is very simple: a hand-held applicator is placed on the area to be treated and a flash of light is emitted from the applicator every one-two seconds. The operator then continues to move the applicator over the entire area to be treated, flashing a new area every few seconds. The treatment session can take from 5 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated. The degree of discomfort experienced varies with each person, depending on your sensitivity. The sensation may be anything from painless to a tolerable sting.

Dr. Josh Fox on the latest in lasers making permanent hair removal less hair-raising

Roslyn, NY (PRWEB) June 06, 2011

With beach season on the horizon, spring is the time to prep for a smooth summer. Electrolysis used to be the only method available for permanent hair removal, but the advent of lasers offers a more cost and time efficient alternative. According to cosmetic industry figures, laser hair removal is the most popular aesthetic treatment for women under 35 and is second only to Botox for women 35 and older.

With electrolysis, a very thin electrified needle is inserted into the hair follicle so that the heat burns the follicle and prevents regrowth. With laser epilators, a low-energy laser directs light on the target area. ?The energy from the laser is absorbed by a pigment in the bulb of each hair called melanin, which prevents the hair from growing,? says Dr. Josh Fox, founder and director of New York-based Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery.

While some hair may grow back in the targeted area, they are usually lighter in color and thinner than before. Permanent removal may take anywhere from four to eight rounds of treatment to ensure coverage of all follicles in their growth cycle. ?The number of required treatments varies depending on each client's unique metabolism, hormone level, hair quality and number of hair follicles,? says Dr. Fox. It is usually recommended that treatments not be done on tanned skin, another reason to start the process before summer.

Electrolysis can be time consuming, painful, and expensive since each hair follicle must be treated individually. Laser treatments are faster and in the long run, often less costly because many hairs are treated simultaneously. Also, the hairs don?t have to grow out before treatment as they do with electrolysis, which only works when hair is growing. There is not the risk of scarring which there is with electrolysis.

According to a recent study by Celibre Medical Corporation, 97% of women who removed unwanted hair using lasers have been satisfied with the outcome. This finding is significantly higher than the satisfaction of electrolysis (70%) or adhesions (55%). There are also laser home removal systems, but testers at hairremoval.org found that while those devices can slow hair growth slightly, for permanent and individually tailored results they recommend going to a licensed professional.

?Dermatologists use several kinds of lasers depending on the skin tone and needs of each patient,? says Dr. Barry Silver, a dermatologist at Advanced Dermatology P.C. and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery. ?An outdated laser can feel like hot pins and needles.?

One common brand of laser is the Alexandrite (which includes the GentleLASE & Apogee devices). The Alexandrite beam has a longer pulse, allowing it to access deeper follicles, and is commonly used for people with very light skin tones. The long pulsed Nd:YAG laser is commonly used for people with dark skin tones because of the reduced melanin absorption of this wavelength. This type of laser includes the Gemini & Lyra device, the first FDA-approved laser for all skin types.

The Soprano is a diode epilator that is appropriate for any hair type. This state of the art device was declared ?the Maserati of lasers? on the television show ?The Doctors.? Instead of a pulse method, the Soprano treats in a continuous motion of low level pulses that feel slightly warm but painless. The laser energy does not go into the skin as a painful blast, but heats the hair follicles gradually and gently.

?The patient feels less pain because the energy is a lower pulse,? says Dr. Fox. ?The doctor is delivering the energy much more quickly.? This system produces faster results than some other options and most patients are hair free within four to five treatments.

Since these procedures usually start with a consult, Dr. Fox and Dr. Silver have a few tips for how to optimize that opportunity:

Know what you?re getting into ?Ask if the laser hair removal device they plan to use can safely and effectively treat your hair,? says Dr. Silver. ?Ask the specific name of the laser machine in order to research it.? He advises that clients find out what kind of results can be expected, how many treatments they will need, and an estimate of total costs.?

Practice makes perfect Doctors can do a test patch on the skin during a consultation. ?A small part of your face and body can be treated by the laser in order to see how the skin will react,? explains Dr. Fox. ?If you?re concerned about potential discomfort, inquire about ways they can make the treatment as comfortable as possible.?

Know what to expect ?Ask about pre and post treatment instructions and for an information sheet on that, if available,? says Dr. Silver. ?Most practitioners have specific recommendations that they want you to follow.? Understand what is expected to do before and after each treatment, as well as in between sessions.

New Website Features Med Spa Treatments & Hair Removal in Los Angeles

Marina Del Rey, CA (PRWEB) November 11, 2011

Dr. Grant Stevens, a renowned board-certified plastic surgeon at Marina Plastic Surgery Associates, has launched a new website for The Stevens Institute(http://www.thestevensinstitute.com/), a full-service medical day spa at Marina Plastic Surgery offering non-surgical services including injectables, skin care, and hair removal for Los Angeles women and men.

The new site provides detailed information about the extensive menu of options for "no downtime" facial rejuvenation treatments available at the institute, which Dr. Grant Stevens created to complement his growing plastic surgery practice.

"The new website reflects the extensive array of skin care technology and treatments that we offer," Dr. Grant Stevens says. "The site focuses on the most common skin care concerns that our patients experience, such as sagging skin, spider veins, and cellulite. We've organized those concerns in a personal treatment plan section that allows patients to locate the issues they want to correct and then build an online plan to discuss with us." Dr. Grant Stevens' partner, Dr. Michelle Spring, adds, "It empowers patients to recognize that their aesthetic goals are achievable when the institute staff and they work together as a team."

For example, if a patient chooses "wrinkles " as an area of concern, then the website scrolls down to reveal non-surgical alternatives to a facelift in Los Angeles, such as injectable fillers, chemical peels, and laser skin rejuvenation. Other popular services include skin health, such as GentleWaves?, and body contouring, such as SmoothShapes?.

"Current and prospective patients can also go directly to our menu of treatment options," notes Dr. Michelle Spring. "For example, one of the most frequently requested services in Los Angeles is BOTOX? injections. Many women and men come to the site knowing they want to find out more about this popular treatment."

Another extremely popular treatment is laser hair removal. "We offer two options for achieving smooth, hair-free skin on the body and face: laser hair removal and waxing. And that variety of choices is true in every category. I take pride in the fact that we provide a complete menu of 'no downtime' rejuvenation solutions for every cosmetic goal, skin type, and age," states Dr. Spring. She continues, "Also, CoolSculpting? by ZELTIQ?, which is a non-invasive alternative to liposuction treatments, has become increasingly popular among our patients."

While on the site, visitors can sign up for the medical spa's newsletter, which includes the latest news on facial rejuvenation and other treatments.

"We also frequently offer specials in our newsletter," says Dr. Grant Stevens. "The newsletter serves as an adjunct to our new site, helping current and prospective patients stay up to date on our newest services to enhance their appearance. The wonderful feedback that my staff and I have received on our new site shows that we are accomplishing our mission: to provide patients with an online resource that captures the essence of who we are, what we offer, and how they can easily and effectively achieve their aesthetic goals for a lifetime of beauty."

Dr. Grant Stevens is the medical director of Marina Plastic Surgery Associates (http://www.marinaplasticsurgery.com) in Marina del Rey, CA. He is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons. Dr. Stevens is the director of the USC Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship and Aesthetic Surgery Division, on the editorial board of Aesthetic Surgery Journal and on the board of directors of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. An international traveling professor, Dr. Stevens was recognized by his peers as one of America's best physicians in "The Guide to Top Doctors."
