Bella Luna Toys Makes Top 10 Green Business List

Rockland, ME (PRWEB) September 20, 2011

Bella Luna Toys has made the list of Top Ten nominees for the Green Business of the Year award from Green America, a non-profit membership organization based in Washington D.C. and dedicated to harnessing the power of the marketplace to create an environmentally sustainable society.

The nominees were chosen by visitors to the organization?s website, http://www.greenamerica.org. The final winner, to be chosen by a second round of voting that ends on October 6, will be announced during the week of October 10.

Making the Top Ten Green Business list is an honor for Bella Luna Toys owner Sarah Baldwin, who, as an approved business member of Green America, is required to document the company?s eco-friendly and fair labor business practices.

Baldwin stocks her Internet retail site entirely with natural toys made from natural and organic materials such as wood, cotton, wool, and non-toxic finishes and vegetable dyes. Even the company?s gift ribbon is produced from renewable, biodegradable cotton fiber, grown and processed responsibly in the USA with water-based dyes, soy inks, and without chlorine bleaches.

While the playthings offered at Bella Luna Toys come from many corners of the world, the company specializes in toys made locally in Maine and New England.

Says Baldwin, ?My business is in the beautiful state of Maine, where the local economy?from wood products to lobsters to tourism?depends on a healthy and sustainable environment. So I?m proud to be a part of that Maine tradition as well as to support many small Maine toymakers. By finding as many products as I can locally, I'm also reducing our carbon footprint."

Eco-friendly and fair-trade products from Bella Luna Toys will be featured in the November/December issue of Green American, the magazine of Green America, as well as the November issue of Yankee magazine.

Baldwin, a former Waldorf kindergarten teacher and author of Nurturing Children and Families, also writes a popular blog, Moon Child, on which she addresses child development, play, and Waldorf education.

About Bella Luna Toys:

Established in 2002, Bella Luna Toys has become a leader in online sales of Waldorf toys by striving to provide families with the best possible service and broad selection of natural toys and art supplies, designed to inspire a child?s imagination and creativity.

Earlier this year, Bella Luna Toys was named by the editors of Reader?s Digest a "Best Website for Fair Trade Toys.?

About The Green Business Network:

GBN is powered by Green America, a non-profit organization whose mission is to harness the economic power of consumers and businesses to create a more just and sustainable economy.

About Bella Bear Co.

Teddy bear artist and Bella Bear Co. president, Julie Beran Lamarre, started creating teddy bears by recycling vintage fur coats 15 years ago for customers who wanted an heirloom to remember loved ones who have passed away. As the Bella Bear Co. expanded to retail and wholesale outlets, their luxurious teddy bears quickly gained popularity among a clientele who expect pure luxury and excellent quality. Her unique style allows her to create detail and personality in each teddy bear, such that no two bears are alike. Recycled mink, fox, and sheared beaver are some of her favorite furs to work with. Although these decadent teddy bears are available in three standard sizes - (12 inches, 18 inches and 24 inches), the Bella Bear Co. has custom designed teddy bears up to five feet tall.
