Northridge is pleased to announce the launch of a new retail portal built on the Microsoft SharePoint 2010 platform for a $ 9 billion Fortune 500 national leader in women?s fashion, beauty, and personal care.
The client approached Northridge seeking to develop an up-to-date, centralized collaboration portal built upon the SharePoint 2010 platform. With more than 3,000 retail centers around the globe, the client required a centralized enterprise communications solution capable of linking its entire network of retail centers to corporate headquarters. The primary vision for the SharePoint solution was a communications platform capable of distributing knowledge to all of the client retail centers in a timely and cost-effective manner. The end solution had to be functional across multiple browsers, accessible through a variety of operating systems, and readable on iPads.
The new SharePoint portal serves as a two-way communications platform providing targeted bi-directional content distribution while reducing the inefficiency and long delays associated with printed materials. In addition, the portal provides easy access to corporate documentation according to employee role, enabling collaboration, driving effective communication, and maximizing the ease of information distribution across the entire corporate network.
The new SharePoint portal solution connects the client?s corporate offices with its retail centers, allowing headquarters to push local, regional, and national information to managers, leadership teams, and associates. Each retail location receives real-time product and floorset information through the portal, vastly improving communication speed within the corporation and reducing the client?s carbon footprint.
Every brand within the client?s overall organization received a unique, custom portal design built upon a shared framework and feature set. Each individual brand portal allows specific content to live in a central repository accessible to all stores within that brand. Product information and thought leadership can be pushed from the corporate headquarters to different roles within each retail center, allowing targeted distribution of content based upon the employee?s brand and role within the company and preventing unauthorized access to privileged information.
To encourage collaboration and social community within the organization, Northridge utilized a mix of custom and out of the box SharePoint functionality, such as Messaging, Blogs, Wikis, Discussion Boards and ?Sticky Notes.? These messaging features replace a rudimentary communication system with new technologies and powerful collaboration tools. The Sticky Notes functionality is a custom application designed by Northridge within SharePoint that allows managers to post messages and status updates directly to the portal in a manner similar to the concept of sticky paper notes. Created to encourage a shift away from leaving paper notes in stores between shifts, Sticky Notes provides managers with a hub to centralize important information for their respective stores. In addition, Blogs within the portals provide brand leadership teams with the resources they need to get managers and associates excited and educated about products and corporate events, bridging the gap between the corporate home office and retail centers.
The new retail portal solution has been very well received across the client organization and in particular with store managers and associates. Northridge and the client continue to enhance the SharePoint solution using feedback from newly connected retail centers.
