About Atlantic Vein and Vascular Associates

Doctors Southern and Barber founded Atlantic Vein and Vascular Associates, which opened in January of 2011. Fredrick N. Southern, M.D. attended Saint Vincent College, Latrobe, PA, where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology. He went on to medical school, was selected for an Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship and graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas in 1987. He was board certified by the American Board of Vascular Surgery in 2000 and again in 2008 while in the Navy. Dr. Southern retired from the Navy as a Captain with 23 years of service June 30, 2010. Dr. Barber served four years in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman before attending Niagara University, in Niagara Falls, New York, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science. After college he transferred to the US Navy Medical Corps and attended the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, where in 1987 he graduated as a Doctor of Medicine with the rank of Lieutenant. From 2001 until he retired from the Navy in June 2003, Commander Barber, MC, USN, served as a vascular surgeon at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth.????
