Big mess with keyboard leyout

Big mess with keyboard leyout

I'm using a Debian based distro, so I believe I can work this out using Ubuntu commands.
What went wrong:
1 - After installation, the Keyboard was set to US, by default. Nevertheless I was able to login, even that the user password set during install, has a letter that does not appear in the US keyboard.
2 - At desktop, I managed to change keyboard to my country one.
3 - After reboot, I could not login to desktop. So, I opened a console, and found that the keyboard is (for some reason) US again.
Conclusion: To be able to login, I must find either one of: 1 - Change a default US letter to something else. 2 - Change the keyboard layout back to my country one.
The problem:
To do this, I need to login an I need root privileges.
As I cannot login in the console, Some idea someone could help about? This is a KDE desktop.
