Rheem Valley Shopping Center Provides Setting for Artists at 7th Annual Autumn Arts and Crafts Fair

Moraga, Calif. (PRWEB) September 19, 2005

The sidewalks of the Rheem Valley Shopping Center in Moraga will provide an intimate setting for 40 professional artists at the 7th Annual Autumn Arts and Crafts Fair. The weekend-long event will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, September 23 and 24, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 25 at the shopping center, located at the corner of Moraga Road and Rheem Valley Boulevard.

Sponsored by the Contra Costa Times, this free event will feature a stunning variety of artwork including prints of African inspired batik paintings, ceramic pieces, precious metal jewelry, garments, children?s toys and more. Patrons will be able to browse among the outdoor displays and meet artists who will be demonstrating their craft during the show.

This year?s highlighted artists include Shirley Robles of Danville who has been making ceramic sculptures for more than 12 years. Though her favorite subject matter is frogs she also has fountains and sun faces. All of her pieces are fired at a high temperature and ideal for the garden. Among her most popular pieces are frog princes and princesses complete with 22-carat gold crowns.

Born in Uganda, Paul Nzalamba was exposed to art at an early age as he watched his mother design and make baskets, floor mats, and room dividers. Paul learned the technique of batik painting from East Africa?s most respected masters. After receiving a college degree he traveled to Los Angeles to sell his batik paintings. His artwork at the show will be represented in prints and lithographs which reflect the color and vibrancy of his native Uganda as he portrays the simple village life with images of women walking to the well with pots on their head, villagers playing instruments, or children learning a lesson from their teacher.

Award-winning artists, Stephen Stark and Angela Fortain of Benicia will be showcasing their one-of-kind sculptures and hand-blown glass pieces. Steven has a bachelor's degree in metalsmithing from the California College of Arts and Crafts. The 13-year veteran creates sculptures in either bronze or steel using the lost wax process or sandcast to create whimsical pieces. Angela has been blowing glass for eight years. She will feature her colorful vases, bottles, paper weights and bowls in a variety of styles. ?We take great pride in creating high quality artwork that will last for generations,? Steven says.

Other artists in this year?s festival include Barbara Kee of Rocklin showcasing home décor, buttons and bowls; Lorna Ritter of Napa with her whimsical collection of hand-painted garments and accessories for women including: dresses, vests, jackets, pillows and more; Napa artist, Dennis Williams showing his wooden puzzles, toys, clocks, clothes racks, bug boxes, and money banks all aimed to challenge a child?s imagination.
