Lee?s Summit area physician Dr. Bruce Fearon offers treatments for leg veins, facial veins, spider veins, and varicose veins.
Vein treatments are available to those in the Lee's Summit, Kansas City, Independence, and Blue Springs areas of Missouri. The treatment techniques include: CoolTouch CTEV for endovenous laser ablation of unwanted larger varicose veins. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) for the treatment of superficial veins, and sclerotherapy.
?A small laser fiber is inserted, usually through a needle in the skin, into the damaged vein. Pulses of laser light are delivered inside the vein, which causes the vein to collapse and seal shut,? says Dr. Fearon, ?The procedure is done in-office under local anesthesia.?
The CTEV provides an ideal treatment for endovenous ablation of varicose veins. The 1320 nm wavelength targets water in the vessel wall, not hemoglobin, which means a much more comfortable procedure for patients without post-operative bruising or swelling. Traditionally, varicose veins have been treated in several different ways. The most widely performed treatment used to involve surgically stripping and ligation the affected veins. Vein stripping can require hospitalization, is often very painful and frequently does not fully solve the problem, requiring additional treatments. CoolTouch CTEV is a safer and more effective treatment than traditional surgical options.
IPL vein treatments use laser light to target unwanted spider veins, which respond to the precise energy level and wavelength of light that is used. A small beam of laser light travels through the skin and is absorbed by the blood within the vein, on the basis of its color. The resulting heat coagulates or clots the blood and destroys the function of the vein. This process does not affect any of the surrounding tissue. Over time, the vein will be absorbed by the body and will disappear from sight.
Sclerotherapy can be used to treat both varicose and spider veins. A very small needle is used to inject the veins with a medication that irritates the lining of the vein. In response, the veins collapse and are reabsorbed into the body. The surface veins are no longer visible. Sclerotherapy relieves symptoms due to varicose and spider veins in most patients. With this procedure, veins can be dealt with at an early stage, to help prevent further complications.
