Belasco Theatre Company trains local youth for Cinematic Career

(PRWEB) May 16, 2001

Walnut Creek, CA ? Ryan Meulpoder has been on a stage since he was 5 years old. Now in college at DVC, Ryan has worked in small roles in The Wedding Planner and the upcoming Matrix 2. Although he has come a long way since his tap school days, he looks at his time with director Ed Belasco as a formative stage in his training for his current projects.

?He?s made me much more confident both in my abilities and who I am as a person?, says Ryan. ?Because of Belasco, I am able to express myself much more comfortably.?

Belasco?s unique twist is that he puts on full-length Broadway productions utilizing the talents of children ages 6 through 18. "You won?t find us doing Peter Pan or Charlotte?s Web!" says Belasco. "My kids do the real thing, and they do it like professionals. These kids can sing with the best of them, act and dance ? and I always have the best people in the business for them to work with ? like Lawrence Pech, the Director of the Lawrence Pech Dance Company, as our choreographer ? he?s the greatest!"

Ryan started his career in the spotlight at age 5 with an accomplished jazz education. Switching to drama in High School he read about an audition that the Belasco Theatre Company was having for the part of Danny in Grease. After Grease, Ryan worked with Belasco in The Wiz, Guys and Dolls, A Chorus Line, and Little Shop of Horrors.

Now at Diablo Valley College, Ryan has continued his career in theatre with performances in Hair, Kiss me Kate, and Man of La Mancha. Getting to work with many directors and styles makes him thankful for his Belasco experience. ?Ed sees the potential in people and pushes them to succeed, he doesn?t baby you or sugar coat it. It?s tough love, but it makes you the best.?
